Medicines Australia (MA) Code of Conduct
The Medicines Australia Code of Conduct sets ethical & legal precedent for promoting prescription medicines
-
Medicines Australia's Code of Conduct sets an accountable standard for ensuring the Australian Pharmaceutical industry acts with integrity & honesty to improve patient care. It is underpinned by the legislation requirements of the Therapeutic Goods Regulations & the Therapeutic Goods Act.
-
The Code demonstrates successful industry self-regulation; laying down a principles-based framework to govern how Australian pharmaceutical companies communicate about their prescription medicines & engage with stakeholders.
-
This includes standards for the ethical marketing & promotion of prescription pharmaceutical products to Australian HCPs, & the behaviour of medical representatives.
-
It also guides companies on how to appropriately communicate relevant information to those relying on our medicines, including patients, families, their carers & families, HCPs & the broader community.
-
Whilst the Code is owned by Medicines Australia members, it does not only apply to members. When prescription medicines are registered in Australia, the TGA places a condition of registration that any promotional activities comply with the Medicines Australia Code of Conduct.
-
The Australian pharmaceutical industry are trusted partners in the medicines ecosystem, & it is through the Medicines Australia Code that we ensure our conduct is of the highest ethical standard, & that the environment in which we provide access to our medicines is sustainable & fair.
